Warrior 150 Challenge Hike #1

Join the Dayton Hikers and the Dayton VA Medical Center for Hike #1 of the Warrior 150 Challenge. This is a non-competitive hiking event; results are not being tracked and will not be posted. Hikers will need to sign-in at the start of the hike, in order to participate in the Warrior 150 Challenge. Please hike at your own risk.

DATE:     Saturday and Sunday, March 18-19, 2017

START TIME:     7:00 AM to 8:00 AM (Both Saturday and Sunday; Hikers need to sign in both days).

7:30AM Warrior 150 Hike Kick-off with the City of Troy, Mayor Micheal Beamish.

DAY 1 (Saturday): Registration for hike is from 7:00 AM to 8:00 AM. There will be a small ceremonial KICK-OFF at 7:30AM. An experienced hike leader will start directly following the kick-off. Please see Registration for Hikes information for details. Please bring completed Registration Form with you to Hike.

DAY 2 (Sunday): Registration and sign-in (for those who participated in Day 1 Hike) are from 7:00 AM to 8:00 AM. An experienced hike leader will start hike at 7:30AM. Please see Registration for Hikes information for details. Please bring completed Registration Form with you to Hike.

***Hiking the entire distance on either Day 1 or Day 2 of hike is acceptable. Participants must turn in Registration Form between 7:00-8:00 AM on Day 1 or Day 2. Also, please sign-in on form stating: Participants Completing Entire Hike in 1 day. Entire distance of hike must be completed during scheduled event.

DISTANCE:        Total distance for both days combined is 25 miles; 40 kilometers

WHERE:             Buckeye Trail, from Downtown Troy to Downtown Dayton (Deeds Point)

START POINT DAY 1:                 Downtown Troy, at Adams Street Bridge

END POINT DAY 1:                      Taylorsville MetroPark                                                               South Entrance

TOTAL DISTANCE DAY 1:          14.9 Miles or 24 Kilometers

START POINT DAY 2:                  Taylorsville MetroPark – South entrance

END POINT DAY 2:                       Downtown Dayton at Deeds Point MetroPark

TOTAL DISTANCE DAY 2:           10.1 Miles or 16 Kilometers

HIKE DETAILS:  Hikers will hike 25 miles starting in Downtown Troy  to Deeds Point on mainly paved bicycle path along the Great Miami River. Hike passes through Troy, Tipp City, Eastwood Metro Park and Island MetroPark. This route begins at the registration area (located in Troy City Park next to Adams Street Bridge). Participants are encouraged to hike as much or as little as they are able.

Parking, Drop-off and Pick-up:

DAY 1:

START:  Park in the Troy Community Park across from Hobart Arena. Community Park address is 200 Adams Street, Troy, OH 45373

END:  Parking available in South lot of Taylorsville MetroPark starting at 6:00 AM. https://www.metroparks.org/places-to-go/taylorsville/

DAY 2:

START:  Parking available in South lot of Taylorsville MetroPark. Sign-in/Registration will be in the South entrance near the parking lot and trail entrance (near the Blue Heron Shelter). https://www.metroparks.org/places-to-go/taylorsville/

END:  Parking available near Riverscape downtown Dayton. Take bridge on south side of Deeds Point/Park (over river). Riverscape is to your right (white canopy). Parking available on street and in various paid lots all around downtown. Area in closest proximity to Deeds Park is under construction, very difficult to park off Webster street. Water Station Locations: (located on maps)

Each water station will have water to refill water bottles and some bottled water. Please prepare accordingly for your water, snack and food needs.

Day 1 : 

Water station #1: Open from 7:30 AM to 9:00 AM at Dye Mill Road (about mile 3)

Water station #2: Open from 8:30 AM to 11:00 AM at Kyle Park (Tipp City) (about mile 8.5-9.5)

Day 2:

Water Station #1:  Open from 7:30 AM to 9:00 AM Fishburg Road Parking lot: Great Miami Recreational Trail #25 (about mile 3)

Water Station #2:  Open from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM Entrance of Kittyhawk Golf course (about mile 6)

Known restrooms are noted on map (RR). RR may be a park bathroom or port-a-potty.

Transportation Resources:

Arranging transportation for each hike, to return to cars parked at start location or to start Day 1 or Day 2 are up to each participant to arrange. Other local transportation services (UBER, Taxi’s) may be available. Carpooling and buddy system are encouraged!

Overnight Accommodations:

Hotel accommodations near: Taylorsville MetroPark, Dayton International Airport, and Vandalia, Ohio will be the closest proximity for Saturday, night March 18, 2017.
